NEW ZEALAND ENSIGN

PRESENT FOR DUKE OF GLOUCESTER. (From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, February 10 When the English Rugby Union football team toured New Zealand the Auckland Association of Boys’ Clubs gave a New Zealand ensign into its keeping with the request that it should be presented to the Duke of Gloucester. A few days ago a little ceremony took place in the Duke’s private apartments at Buckingham Palace to which the High Commissioner (Sir Thomas Wilford) was summoned. Mr T. Baxter, manager of the team, and Commander Coopper, secretary of the Rugby Union, made the presentation to the Duke. With them were Colonel J. M. Mitchell, chairman of the Council of Boys’ Clubs, Mr E. T Campbell, M.P., Sir James Reynolds, M.P., and Wingcommander Louis Greig. With the flag was a message from the New Zealand boys expressing their affection for the boys of the English clubs, with whom they were united by similar aims and ideals, and by the desire to become worthy citizens of the British Empire.
