RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting l of the Milton and District Returned Soldiers’’ Association was • held on Saturday evening, and was attended by about 30 ex-service men. The president (Mr J. R. Lynch) occupied the chair. The annual report showed that the local membership within the past 12 months had increased from 14 to 63, but, despite this increase, the local branch had lost badly in the membership challenge campaign against the Kaitangata Returned Soldiers’ Association. The activities of the executive had been principally centred on providing work for ex-service men. The sum of £3O from the Poppy Day appeal fund and £25 from the canteen fund had been subsidised £ for £ by the Borough Council in providing work, whilst over £BO had been paid to ex-service men in a firewood cutting scheme, which had been after showing a hef\vy deficit. ThA following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing 12 months:—President. Mr J. R. Lynch (re-eledted); vicepresidents, Messrs A. H. Peattie and R. Hay _ (re-elected); secretary. Mr A. J. Currie (re-elected); treasurer, Mr H. Adam (re-elected); and the retiring committee was also re-elected with two alterations. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to the executive for the valuable assistance given to unemployed ex-service men. Appreciative references were made to the services rendered by Mr J. M. White, the late secretary of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association. A resolution of sympathy on his retirement through illness was accorded, with the hopes expressed for a speedy recovery to normal health. OBITUARY.
