SPEEDWAY ROYAL.
TO-NIGHT'S PROGRAMME. Those who witnessed the thrilling test match races between England and New' Zealand at the Speedway Royal last Wednesday will be pleased to learn that several members of the New Zealand team are to make another appearance in Dunedin to-night. The management of the Speedway Royal has arranged its moat comprehensive programme to date, and, as the track is in exceptionally good order, some very fast times will be looked for. The competitors in the Big Nine Scratch Race include Jack Bishop (w'ho created such a fine impression on his previous visit here), Cyril Anderson (another Australian champion who is noted as a daring and clever broadsider), and Ben Unwin (who has been attached to the local track for some time past, and who is one of the most consistent Australian riders to appear in Dunedin). Alf. Mattson and Wally Kilmister arc likely to have a thrilling duel, as Kilmister will be anxious to show that his form of last Wednesday night was not his best. He will have a difficult task to beat the brilliant Aucklander, for Mattson is undoubtedly one of the cleverest broadenders yet seen at the Dunedin speedway. Harry Maugham is always' a consistent rider, and he, Frank Day (Auckland), Jack Young, and Reg. Ranby (Wellington) should all help to make things very interesting in the big races from rolling starts. These riders will all compete in the Open Handicap as well, and it will be interesting to see how they fare when asked to concede starts to such riders as Blair, Nesbit, Rait, and Lydors. An Improvers’ Handicap has been arranged for the second division men, and, if last Wednesday’s favourable conditions are repeated, gome grand racing should be witnessed.
