For playing cards for money with men of his unit and thus “ behaving with undue familiarity,” Corporal William Wyborn Blackmore, of the Royal Engineers, was recently reduced to the ranks by an Aldershot court-maritial. It was contended for the defence that there was no more harm in Blackmore playing brag with the men than officers of all ranks playing bridge together. Blackmore, who had had seven years’ service, was married a few weeks before.
