TWO HOUSES AT BLENHEIM. (Per United Press Association.) BLENHEIM, February 20. A five-roomed dwelling, owned by J. J. Dehoo and occupied by T. H. Calcroft, at Riverlands, was totally destroyed by fire. It was beyond the borough boundary, and there were no fire-fighting appliances. The insurances were £6OO on "the house and £IOO on the furniture and effects in the'Victoria Office. Early this morning a seven-roomed dwelling, owned and occupied by S. E. Brown, was badly gutted by fire. The cause is said to be an electric iron left switched on. The rear of the premises was used as a laundry, and a considerable amount of linen belonging to the three hotels and private owners was destroyed. The house was insured for £6OO in the State Office, and the contents for £3OO in the British Traders’ Company.

RESIDENCE NEAR GISBORNE. (Per United Press Association.) GISBORNE, February 20. The Eastwood Hill residence of Mr W. D. Cook, situated in beautiful grounds, which formed one of the show places of the district, was destroyed by fire. A valuable collection of curios was lost. The house was insured for £ISOO, and contents for £2250 in the Phoenix Office. LOCAL CALLS. At 1.30 yesterday morning the City Fire Brigade was called to the intersection of the Main Sopth road and Playfair street, Cavcrsham, by a justifiable false alarm. ' The brigade received another call at 2.20 a.m., fire having broken out in the upstairs portion of a nine-roomed brick and stone house at Forbury corner. Only one room and its contents were damaged. The cause of the outbreak is unknown. The house is owned by Mr D. M, Calder and the occupant is Mrs James. The contents were insured in the South British Office for £570.
