“ lie is a cat burglar. He scaled a drainpipe, got on to the flat roof, broke a window, and got into the premises. But he left his finger-prints, and these proved his undoing,” said Mr Bickmore, prosecuting Reginald John Cooper, 23, a Welsh labourer, at Middlesex Sessions, for breaking into houses and stealing jewels, gold, and other valuables. It was stated that he had thrown some of the pioperty into a canal, and had refused to help the police to recover it. In sentencing him to 18 months’ hard labour Sir Herbert Nield, K.C., said he had begun to steal when seven years old, and had been twice to industrial schools. Staving been leniently treated by the Bench m Wales. Kaitangata is our most economical coal; it radiates such a lasting heat. —Advt.
