(Per United Press Association.) PAHIATUA, February t 19. Joshua Joseph Swiggs was fined £SO for keeping a common gaming house at his residence for the purpose of bookmaking. His agent, Mrs E. M. Bellshaw, was fined £ls for using the shop as a gaming house. CHRISTCHURCH, February 19. Leonard Smith was fined £SO in the Magistrate’s Court to-day for keeping a common gaming house. The police said lie was in a fairly big way. A fire at midnight in a two-storeyed business block in Worcester street considerably damaged the vulcanising plant belonging to H. Gillespie (printing works), Willis and Aitken (electrical goods store), and J. I. Smail, Ltd. The property, which was owned by G. T. Moulder, was insured in the Commercial Union Office; Gillespie’s stock and plant in the Victoria Office; Smail in the North British; and Willis and Aitken in the Commercial Union.
