SLAVERY IN LIBERIA
STEPS FOR SUPPRESSION. COMMISSION’S REPORT. (British Official Wireless.) (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) RUGBY, February 18. Asked in the House of Commons if the Government had made further representations to Liberia on the League Commission’s. report, the Foreign Secretary (Mr Arthur Henderson) said that it had not the necessary council to set up a committee to examine'how best to assist the Liberian Government. He was chairman of a committee which was meeting in London on the 26th. In reply to a question regarding the shipping of slaves in the Red Sea, Mr Henderson said that two naval sloops were stationed there to prevent slave traffic from Africa to Arabia, otherwise no steps had been taken recently, but the question was under consideration. He hoped shortly to make a statement on the information on the subject /if slavery which is to be furnished to the League in accordance with the Assembly resolution.
