LAST OF A WARSHIP
THE PIONEER SCUTTLED. y (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph— Copyright.) SYDNEY, February 19. (Received Feb. 19, at 5.5 p.m.) , What was left of the old Australian cruiser Pioneer after she was stripped at Garden Island was towed to sea yesterday evening and scuttled. The vessel was built 32 years ago, and was one of seven of an experimental type midway between a torpedo boat and a light cruiser, which failed to realise expectations. The Pioneer, nevertheless, did great work in the war time, including assistance in the destruction of the German warship Konigsberg and the capture of several merchantmen.
