BOWLING.

LADIES’ TOURNAMENT. ; SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP. The ladies’ bowling tournament was continued yesterday in fine weather on the Caversham and St. Kilda greens, and the final, which lies between Mrs Higginson (Dunedin), and Mrs Gregory (Dunedin) alone remains to be played. There was a large attendance of visitors on the St. Kilda green, where most of the play took place, and great interest was manifested in the games. Amongst the most spectacular contests was the semi-final between Mrs Warrington and Mrs Gregory, in which the latter made a wonderful recovery. At one stage Mrs Warrington was. 14 to her opponent’s 2, but after that Mrs Gregory scored repeatedly and almost continuously, and finished up 2 to the good. It wag one of the best played singles in the tournament, both ladies drawing well to the kitty. After watching the ladies play during the past two days the impression formed is that in sthe drawing department of the game they are little inferior in this respect to the men players. The material difference seems to lie in the direction of judgment ns to what to play for, and on which hand to play. The majority of the _ ladies appear to have an extreme partiality for playing the forehand and avoiding the backhand. The following are the results of yesterday’s play:— CAVERSHAM GREEN. Fifth Round. Mrs Easton 22 beat Mrs Morrison 18. Mrs Mullinger 19 beat Mrs Hollow. 17. Mrs Stubbs 17 beat Miss Gray 16. Mrs M'Connell 20 beat Mrs Newton 16. ST. KILDA GREEN. Fifth Round.
