ANNUAL LEAVE. NO EXTRA HELP. (Special to Daily Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 18. It appears as if a good number of State departmental employees will have to forgo their holidays this year unless relief can be provided without expense to the Government. In accordance with the Government’s economy programme, it has been decided that there shall be ho extra expenditure this year on holidays. The men in the country districts will be affected most by the order. The staff of the Agricultural Department has received the following circular letter: —“The following is a copy of a memorandum received by the head office from the Public Service Commissioner (Mr P. W. Verschaffelt, and is quoted for your information: ‘I am directed to advise that, in view of the present financial stringency, it has been decided that, for the present year, annual leave can be granted only to ‘ those cases where the staff concerned is able to provide the necessary relief. Where it is not-possible to grant leave of absence without relief, such leave must be deferred for the current year,”’
