Sir, —In referring to the decision of the Union Steam Ship Company to withdraw the Maheno from the MelbourneBluff service, Mr A. H. Allen stated at the meeting df the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce on Monday night that there was a lack of encouragement somewhere —presumably a lack of encouragement of the service—but where he was not,prepared: to say. . „ , , At the same meeting of the chamber a ( sub-committee, of. which Mr Allen was a member, brought up a report in which it was stated that the time had arrived when the Government might—presumably, should —place an embargo on the importation of Australian oats, barley, chaff, etc.—X • am, etc., Onlooker.
