BROADSIDING.
By Skid. By the time these notes appear in print the test match will have been decided, and what will probably be looked back on for many months to come as the highwater mark of broadsiding in Dunedin will have been seen. There could scarcely be a more unfortunate sports body than that controlling, broadsiding in Dunedin, as on a number of occasions this season meetings have haddo be postponed on account of weather conditions. Last Saturday night's blow of* ill fortune, however, was the severest of all; and it is, therefore to be hoped: that for the'rest of the season the. speedway, authorities will vbe comewhat more kindly treated by the clerk of the weather. The news that the difference between local riders and the management has been settled will :be welcomed by all who have the %velfare of the sport at heart. Under the agreement/ which the riders have signed it is provided that men who qualify for a scratch mark in an A-Grade race or open handicap, are to receive £7 per meeting for machine maintainance, One second men will receive £5 per meeting, two second men-£4, and three second men £3. Any local rider whose time is better than 96sec for an event will receive £2 per meeting as machine maintainance. Riders not able to cover the four laps in 96sec will receive £1 per meeting. On all bpen handicap races there will be a limit of six seconds. In connection with the award of £2 for riders producing faster times than 96sec, it is understood that this covers B Grade as well as A Grade races. It is stated that alb the local men have agreed to accept these terms, and will be seen in action at the next meeting at the stadium, though it is hot yet certain whether, it. will be possible to stage a contest on Saturday night or not.
