A strange story of how a man, aged 79, imagined- that he was living in the past, and collapsed in the street, was told at a Shoreditch inquest. George Gibbons, a retired baker, of Buxton road, Chiugford, Essex, was trying to find a shop and rooms that he occupied at Homerton 20 years ago, under the belief, it is said, that he still lived there. A constable found him on tb e pavement at Bethnal Green and he died in hospital from bronchial trouble. It was said by a son that Gibbons’s thoughts often wandered back 20 years. When he left home Gibbons said he was in the wrong house, and that he was going home. In returning a verdict of “Death from natural causes,” the coroner said the old man was evidently living in the past.
