CAWTHRON INSTITUTE.
BIOLOGICAL RESEARCH STATION. (Per United Press Association.) NELSON, February 18. The Government biological research station in relation to forestry was officially opened at the Cawthron Institute this afternoon by the Minister of Education (Mr H. Atmore). The Minister and other speakers testified to the importance of the station in preventing the spread of diseases among the New Zealand forests and plantations. So much money was now being spent on afforestation that it was essential that such work should be properly undertaken. Dr Miller, chief of the Entomological Department at Cawthron Institute, will be in charge of the entomological work, and Dr Cunningham will be in charge of the mycological work at Palmerston North. The Minister said that the work of the Cawthron Institute was valued not only in Nelson and New Zealand, but by scientists in all parts of the world.
