EDWARD THE MARTYR

REMAINS FOUND. (United Press Association.) (By' Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, January 26. (Received Jan. 27, at 1.45 a.m.)_ The remains of the Saxon King, Edward the Martyr, who was murdered at Corfc Castle by his stepmother Elfrida in 978, have been found in Shaftesbury Abbey. An empty tomb was found in 1861, but records showed that the coftin of the Martyr was removed to a secret place about the time of the. dissociation of monasteries by the abbess and nuns of the Abbey. _ The resting place was not traced until the owner, uncovering • a wall on the site of the Abbey, found a lead casket 24 by 9 inches containing bones, which was manifestly • secreted in great haste. Everything suggests that the remains are those of one of the most famous of English Royal Martyrs.
