HIBERNIAN SOCIAL AND DEBATING CLUB.
— -- ■ ANNUAL MEETING. ■ V. Members of the Dunedin Hibernian Social and Debating Club attended in fair numbers at the annual meeting, held on Monday evening, January 19, in the clubrooms, Moran Buildings, the Octagon. The president (Mr A. Gillick) presided. Mr Gillick paid tribute to the help and encouragement rendered by his lordship the bishop and local clergy. The club, he said, owed much of its success to several of the clergy, who had not only rendered distinguished service in contributing to the syllabus, but had adjudicated in debates, etc., whenever approached. The statement of accounts was presented by the secretary (Mr J. Merchant), and on the motion of the president, adopted. This showed a cerdit balance of £9B 19s 2d. The auditor (Mr R. Thompson) commented on Y al 7 OUs aspects of the club’s position, pointing out the necessity of maintaining the revenue. He congratulated the outgoing office-bearers on the excellent work accomplished by them during their term, and warmly complimented the secretary on his marked efficiency. Office-bearers for the ensuing half-year were elected as follows: —President, Mr A. Gillick (re-elected); vice-president, Mr V. Pledger; secretary, Mr G. Carroll; assistant-secretary, Mr R. O’Reilly; treasurer, Mr T. Boyle (re-elected); auditor, Mr R. Thompson (re-elected); committee —Messrs G. O’Connell, F. G. Brown, W. M'Elevey, J. O’Reilly, J. Dawkins, G. Gibb, J, Dolan, and M. Hayes. '
