WELLINGTON NOTES.

(Special to Daily Times j WELLINGTON. January 26. The stallion Siegfried (7925), by Son-in-law from Fire Mist, by Sunstar from Lorgnette, by Isinglass—Galinne, by Galopin, was landed off the Ruahine from England at the week-end. Siegfried, who has made a very favourable impression on those who have viewed him, was bred by Lord Howard de Walden, and has been imported by Mr R. Holden, of Hawke’s Bay. He brings to New Zealand a new line of the No. 1 family. The stallion Arrowsmith (Chaucer — Sagitta) contracted an internal complaint and died a few days ago, Arrowsmith was bred in England in 1915, and was imported by Mr J. N. Heslop in 1919. He proved himself a high-class performer while in training, amongst his successes being the C.J.C. Stewards’ Handicap in 1920 under the record weight of 9.13, the Great Easter of the same year under 8.13, and the 1920 Thompson Handicap under 9.9. At the stud Arrowsmith has left some useful performers. Toxeuma is his best representative. The Elderslie Stud Company’s English importation, Lliad, arrived at the weekend by the Ruahine, and is. remaining on the boat until she readies Lyttelton. Lliad is by Swynford from Pagan Sacrifice, by Cicero—Simony, by Common — Simon’s Bay, by St. Simon. Lliad ran second in the last English Derby to Blenheim. The Absurd —Ta Ua gelding Freehold has been sold by Mr W. M‘A. Duncan to Messrs M'Leod and Slater, of Hastings. Freehold ran second to Ridgemount at Ashhurst last week after getting badly away. He should be a good proposition round some of the minor meetings, for there is no question that he has speed above the ordinary. Mr W. R. Kemball has decided to be represented at the C.J.C. midsummer meeting, and George Jones will go down with Lady Pam, Cape Gold, Maritime, and Spear Lad. Mr E. Riddiford has leased Staghunter to the Trentham trainer, J. M'Laughlin, and the gelding will probably Be brought in to resume training immediately.
