The D.J.G. has received an excellent list of nominations for its Cup meeting next month, and among the 24 horses included in the Cup is Nightmarch, whose appearance will constitute one of the attractions of the meeting. For the Hazletl Gold Cup a field of 12 has been nominated, among them being Nightmarch and. Gay Crest. Handicaps will be declared on Friday, and acceptances are due on February 6. Footfall has broken down and his case looks so serious that he may not be raced again. At his best he was a good horse, a solid stayer, and he numbered a Duni edin Cup among his successes, while he won the Waikouaiti Cup on New Year’s Day. The yearling filly by Diacquenod from Cherry Pie, purchased at Trentham by the trotting enthusiast, Mr E. C. M‘Dermott, will go into J. W. Jennings’s stable at Riccarton. Mr F. Williamson’s Australian-bred two-year-old. Eclair, by Eossendale from Oatrock, is getting through useful tasks on the’Riccarton tracks. He had a race in the spring, and he will show improved form with a bit of age. Owlsflight ran three promising races at the Wellington meeting. He is a longstriding galloper, and with more experience is likely to develop into a useful performer. The brilliant galloper and eminently successful sire, Arrowsmith, died recently as a result of an inward complaint. Hie stock have shown marked prominence in New Zealand, and it is unfortunate that his services have been lost at a, stage when they were in keen demand by breeders from both Islands. The yearling colt by Acre from Moorefield, who was passed in when offered at auction at Trentham last Wednesday, has been secured privately, by a patron of P. T. Hogan’s stable, and he will form one of a big batch of youngsters which the South Canterbury trainer will have under his care at Washdyke. The colt is a brother to Crown Area, who showed good form when raced by the late J. M'Combe, T. H. Gillett intends' to make an early start with Magna Charts. He has had a long spell and he appears to be quite sound, but it remains to be seen how he will fare when the serious part of a preparation has to be undertaken. It is to be hoped he will train on, as he is a highly-promising jumper, * That good mare Circulation has run her last race, having had her two hind legs cut off by the Otago train when she got on to a crossing after breaking away from an attendant. Her loss is distinctly unfortunate, as there is little doubt that she would have been valuable at the stud when her racing days were over. She was started in 92 races, winning 10 of them and being placed in 39 others, her stake 1 winnings being £5323 10s. Circulation was an eight-year-old mare, by Paper Money from Sister Radius, by ‘Charlemagne II from Sister Regis, by Hotchkiss from St. Evelyn, by St. Leger. She was bred by Mr L. C. Hazlett, and has done all her racing in his colours. As a two-year-old she won the D.J.C. Champagne Stakes (1924). Next season she was second in the Dunedin Guineas, and third in the New Zealand Oaks Stakes. She won the St. Andrew’s Handicap, and was third in both the Invercargill Cup and Hazlett Memorial. As a four-year-old she won the Southland Handicap, and was second in the C.J.C. Criterion Handicap and Riverton Gold Cup. At five,years she i won the Southland Cup and Riverton Gold Cup. Next season she only secured second place money, but at seven years she won the D.J.C. Telegraph Handicap and the Wyndham Cup.
