TAIERI DRAINAGE.

MEETING AT HENLEY, Following the meeting at Momona over a week ago in connection with drainage matters, another meeting was held at Henley last Thursday. About 50 people were present. Mr T. P. Hackett was voted to the chair. The discussion was on the lines of the Momona meeting. Mr Kempshell gave a brief history of drainage matters up to the present time. The following motions were carried: — Mr T. Ryder moved, and Mr H. W. Wilson seconded —“ That this meeting strongly objects to any alteration in the constitution of the Taieri River Trust.’ Mr A. Moore moved, and Mr W. Baird seconded —“ That this meeting respectfully suggests to the Taieri River Trust that, owing to the present economic position, it should approach the Government asking it to suspend in the meantime the claim for rates due on loan.” , Mr H W. Wilson moved, and Mr F. Ryder seconded—" That the Taieri River Trust be requested to suspend the enforcement of the 10 per cent, penalty on overdue rates.” . Mr H. W. Wilson moved, and Mr b. Snell seconded—“ That this meeting approve of Mr Kempshell’s effort to induce the Government to purchase the larger farms on the Taieri for closer settlement.” . , \ , At the end of the discussion, votes ot thanks were passed to the chairman and Messrs Kempshell, Moore, and .Lyaji (members of the trust) for their attendance.
