RACING IN AUSTRALIA.

(Received Jan. 25, at 8 p.m.) The first day of the Australian Jockey Club's anniversary meeting was held at Randwick to-day. Rain early in the morning made the track soft. The weather was sultry, and there was a poor attendance. Following are the results:— CHALLENGE STAKES.—Casque Dor, 8,2 (Pratt), 1; Sir Chrystopher, 8.3 (J. Munro), 2; Ranworth, 7.6 (Simpson), 3. Nineteen started, including the former New Zealanders Gay Ballerina and Auda. Setting a good pace, Carvel Boy went to the front at the half-mile with Waugoola, Bimboy, Beckwith, Casque Dor, and Panola handy. Casque Dor took the lead at the Leger from Carnolla, Sir Chrystopher, and Panola, anj won comfortably by two lengths and d-half, with a length and a-half between second and third. Panola was fourth. Gay Ballerina and Auda were in the ruck. Time, Imln 121 sec. The New Zealand-bred Financial com-' ploted the hat trick by winning the first division of the Handicap from Mavbe and Satmouth. (Received Jan. 25, at 8 p.m.) At the Moonee Valley races the William Reid Stakes resulted as follows; — Mystic Peak, 9.1 (A. Ree'd), 1; Gteenline, 9.7 (Dempsey), 2; Wise Force, 9.0 (Daniels), 3. Five started. Won by a neck. Carradale was fourth. Time, Imin 14Jece.
