explosion in Lanarkshire: FIVE MEN KILLED. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, January 22. Five miners were killed in an explosion in the Auchengeich colliery, Lanarkshire. The explosion followed the firing of a shot, killing instantly five men who were working in that scctipn. Six men, including one member of the rescue party, were overcome by gas fumes and were taken to hospital. FALL IN HANLEY PIT. FIVE MINERS ENTOMBED. LONDON, January 22. Four hundred men were working when the roof of a pit fell in at Hanley. All succeeded in escaping, except five. So far desperate attempts to rescue them have been unsuccessful. It is not known whether they are still alive. MEN RESCUED UNINJURED. LONDON, January 23. (Received Jan. 23, at 8 p.m.) The men who were entombed in the Hanby pit have been rescued uninjured.
