WAIRIO TRAINING NOTES.

(Faoii Ouk Special Reporter.) INVERCARGILL, January 23. The conditions to-day for the final gallops for the Wairio meeting were good, although a strong wind round the top did not help the horses to make fast times. The course proper was used, the flags being well in. The going, was a trifle dead. Cyrille was first to gallop, registering Imin 8 2-ssec for five furlongs. He is not himself. A smart effort went to Memories when he beat Polling Day over five furlongs in Imin 4 4-ssec. On Watch was sent seven furlongs. She ran the first four in 55 l-ssec and the seven in Imin 38see. It was a useful performance. Crubenmore, who looks well, beat Bachelor Boy over half a mile in 51 3-ssec—a very smart piece of work. Steeton, who appears to have recovered from her cold, registered 52sec for half a mile, and did it well. Ronaki, who is now .being trained by A. M’Lellan, the well-known trotting mentor, hit out freely when he beat Night Lark over six furlongs in Imin 21eec—rthe first two in 26sec. The best half-mile of the morning went to the credit of Remindful and Hornbeam The time was 51 2-ssee, and Remindful gave her best display for some time. Shortly and Wincette, Wairio Cup candidates, were paired over a mile. They ran the first four in 53 3-ssec, five in Imin 7 4-ssee, and the mile in Imin 51sec. They could not have' done much better. Miss Redowa pleased by the manner in which she covered six furlongs in Imin 22eec. The honours for the morning over six furlongs went to Sentinel Lad, when he beat Birdwood comfortably in Imin 19 3-ssec, the first three in 38 3-ssec. Sentinel Lad looks a picture. Thornton and Vinegrove recorded Imin 10 l-ssec for five furlongs.
