RESULTS OF YEARLING CHAMPIONSHIP. 1930.
.Ninety-two entries were received from eight clubs, namely, Dunedin, Oamaru, Cornwall (Auckland), Wellington, Manawatu, Tolaga Bay, Wanganui, and Hikurangi, for. the yearling championship. The following are the velocities (yards per minute) and prize money:—W. Cunningham (Dunedin). 1250 yards' (£2 9s 8d); A. Stevenson (Dunedin), 1248.56 yards (£1 17a 3d); C. Rexton (Dunedin), 1244.5 yards (£1 4s lOd); L. Tonks (Dunedin), 1237.73 yards (12s sd): J. Still (Dunedin), 1229.57 yards; F. Jones (Dunedin), 1202.2 yards; J. Hardgrave (Dunedin), 119Q.62 yards; G. Coutls (Dunedin), 1195.67 yards; H. Millard (Dunedin). 1192.9 yards; E. Carvell (Wanganui), 1121.4 yards; N. C. Barstow (Wanganui), 1117.7 yards; B. Cleland fWanganui), 1114.7 yards; C. Willacy (Wanganui), 1091 yards; E. Gilbey (Hikurangi), 1077.7 yards; W. Parsons ‘Hikurangi), 1076.7 yards; J. W. Mee (Hikurangi). 1076.4 yards; L. Davis (Hikurangi), 1073.7 yards; A. Mee (Hikurangj), 1073.6 yards; J. Scott (Hikurangi), 1073.2 yards; J. Patterson (Wanganui), 1061.4 yards; G. Parsons {Hikurangi), 1059.9 yards; J. Baugh (Hikurangi), 1055.9 yards; J. Danks (Manawatu), 893.9 yards; P. Wills (Manawatn), 893.2 yards; F. Murphy (Manawntu), 890.3 yards. The Cornwall Club did not return their results. The Tolaga Bay Club mistook the date, and did not fly. _ The Oamaru Club did not fly the required distance direct air line. The Wellington Club was disqualified on account of its birds being liberated five minutes late.
The club prizes were as follow:—Dunedin, £2 Is 4d; Hikurangi, £2 Is 4d. The following was the pool money;— 10s pool, E. Carvell (Wanganui), I8s; 7s 6d pool, C. Rexton fDunedin), £1 0s 3d;. 4s pool, E. Carvell 7s 2d. N. C. Barstow (Wanganui) 4s 3d, B. Cleland (Wanganui) 2s Od; 2s pool, E. Carvell 0s 3d, N G. Barstow 3s 9d, W. an unknown country. Only the wraiths of the original dwellers on the ranges and the hinterland wijl be left. Possibly in the calm of tropical midnight they will dance at ghostly corroborees alongside the old water-holes of the Australia that once was theirs.
