In company > with Mr Colin Goodlet, ■""bo -was driving the car, and a lady, Mr Bradwell left Lawrence late on Sunday night for Christchurch to attend the funeral of his brother. The deceased was on the under side of the car, and as he was apparently unable to open the door against the pressure of water, life was extinct before help could be obtained. The driver received severe cuts and abrasions, and was. removed to Lawrence Hospital in a semi-conscious condition, but the lady passenger escaped unhurt. The body was taken ,to Palmerston Morgue, where an inquest was opened yesterday afternoon by Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., and was adjourned to Dunedin to a date to be fixed later.
