GIRL CITIZENS.
The Dunedin. Girl Citizens-held'a community tea and. gathering on Saturday, November 22, as-the, final function prior to the commencement of the summer programmed ' Each, clilb . decorated its' own table and prepared;its Own team. - : The cafeteria .--was-i filled, tpoverflowing with happy girls/ and * the conference . meal spirit prevailed; with quick . repartee from table to table, ending up with a nursery rhyme, /singing /contest. After tea the sports shield,! won by the Waiora Club, was : presented 1 to the captain by Mrs Skinner, chairman of the. Girls’ Works Committee.- A silver. cup, • presented to the community by Mrs Skinner, was awarded to the Koa Club, for the best all-round club work. Cassie Grace, Mavis ' Walker, and Doris Jones were presented, with Girl Citizen brooches, and a special one was given by the whole community to Koa Mercer, in.appreciation for her year in office as chief citizen. At 8.15 p.m. the final community gathering for 1930 commenced. -. The service was conducted by the chief counsellor. Twelve girls were enrolled ■as citizens. Miss Hardie spoke on “Our Best Always," and the service concluded with the Girl Citizen benediction and hymn, “ Follow the • Gleam.":.. During the summer months, December to March, there will ■be only one club night each week for Girl Citizens, when the programme will bo of an informal nature. : * ■
ANNUAL SPORTS MEETING. The Girl Citizens of the Y.W.C.A. held their annual sports on Saturday, November 22,. at 2 p.m. at the Arthur Street School Grounds. The proceeds will go towards conference funds to help send delegates to the Girls Citizen Conference, which is to, be-held-at New Plymouth'in January. There was a large attendance and all events were enthusiastically contested. During the afternoon there was an interval for afternoon tea, which was served by the members of the Girls’ Work Committee. Owing to rain falling heavily in the latter part of the afternoon it was found necessary to compjete the programme in the hall. Champions for the afternoon were decided on point score. The judges were the Misses Blackie,. Neil, and Thomson; starter, Miss . Wigmore; and stewards—-the Misses M. Reid, M., Rankin, and M. Tuckwell. The results were as follow; 75 Yards Flat Race.—Ataahua Club 1 Kiora 2, Rawdiiti 3. ’ Thread the Needle.—Rewa Club 1 Cooinda 2, Rawhiti 3. ’ Tunnel and Overhead.—Whanake Club 1, Manawanui 2, Kiora 3. . Potato Race. —Sunbeam ' Club 1 Waiora 2. ’ Time. Koa Club 1, Rawhiti 2, Cooinda Kangaroo' Hop.—Whanake Club 1,Aroha Club 2, Manawanui 3, * Flag Relay.—Waiora Club 1, Manawanui 2, Rawhiti 3. Scotch Ball,—Manawanui Club 1 Whanake 2, Aroha 3. ■ ’ Hoop Relay.—Manawanui 1, Waiora 2. Book-balancing.— Waiora Club 1 Cooinda 2, Rawhiti 3. ’ Obstacle.—Waiora ■l, Ataahua 2. ' During the evening at the ’Y.W.C.A Rooms, Mrs Skinner (chairwoman of the Girls^ Work Committee), in presenting the shield to the winning section, congratulated the Waiora Girls on gaining the highest points for the afternoon.
