EXTRAORDINARY CASE

YOUNG SCIENTIST SHADOWED, ATTACKS BY FOREIGN SPIES. SCOTLAND YARD INQUIRING. (United, Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, November 29. (Received Nov. 30, at 8 p.m.) The Star declares that Scotland Yard is investigating an extraordinary case of a young scientist who invented a method of rendering aeroplanes fireproof. He has allegedly been the victim of attacks by_ foreign emissaries. He perfected his invention early this year, whereupon he received inquiries from an Eastern Power, and later'from European Powers and firms. He replied that he preferred to keep his invention for England. While he was testing out apparatus connected with the fireproofing of a suit which would enable the wearer to face the most intense heat, he noticed an unusual flame coming from the. nozzle. He kicked it from his assistant’s.hand, whereupon it exploded, blowing a large hole in the laboratory wall. An examination revealed that some foreign substance had been placed in the apparatus in order to wreck it. The laboratory drawers had been forced open and locks broken. Since then the scientist complains that he has been shadowed, while attempts nave been made to decoy him from home by means of fictitious telephone messages, while samples and notes have been stolen from -the laboratory. He has applied to Scotland Yard for permission to carrv firearms on the ground that his- life is endangered. The Star learns that Scotland Yard has handed over the case to the special branch which deals with spies and aliens Several men are under observation.
