DUNEDIN OPERATIC SOCIETY.

PRODUCTION OF “CINDERELLA.” On Saturday next, December 6, the Dunedin Operatic and Dramatic Society will stage the good old-fashioned pantomime “ Cinderella." The production registers an, important event in the history of the society, for it is the work entirely of Dunedin people. The words have been written, the music has been composed, the costumes have been made, and the scenery has been painted by Dunedin citizens—an undeniably splendid achievement. The excellent cast of characters includes many' favourite performers and popular singers. The chorus of 60 voices is particularly strong and tuneful.- The specially trained operatic ballet can best he described as poetry in motion, and the palace ballroom ecene in which the stately gavotte is danced by 40. performers in the picturesque costume of the period of George 111 is a revelation of dainty, dignified movement. The musical numbers are many, varied, and bright, and they are brilliantly interpreted by an efficient orchestra of 19 instruments under the capable baton of the composer himself. Over 100 people have put in weeks' of sustained endeavour to make the allDunedin production worthy of the city. The libretto is by Mr Keith Stronach and the music by Mr Roy Spackman.
