. MONTHLY; MEETING. The monthly meeting; of'the Red Cross Society was attended by Mr E. A. Eose■vear (chairman) . Lady Ferguson, Mias M‘Lean, Miss Williams, Miss Graham, and Messrs ,C. B. Smith ana. J. W. Smeaton. Letters of thanks were received from the Otago Hospital Board, and the superintendent, Seacliff Hospital, for comforts supplied-to soldier patients. • A letter was received from the Patriotic Association regarding a , special case of distress,—Agreed, to -co-operate. A letter was received from the Dunedin Returned . Soldiers’ Association inviting members to attend the annual Christmas " treat for children'of deceased and disabled soldiers. —Invitation accepted with thanks, . Headquarters forwarded a copy of a letter from ,the Rev. M. 'Mullineaux, founder of .St'. Barnabas’ Pilgrimages. The letter stated, inter alia, “I have recently had the pleasure of taking the Rev. Bryan King round the’French and Belgian battlefields and cemeteries. -He told men that there was in New Zealand the idea that we had closed down our work. We did hand over the work, to an ex-officer, but the change was not satisfactory. Little interest was taken in the relatives, and owing to exploitation we could not stand by and remain inactive. At the request of many relatives we have opened up the Work again, ..particularly for those from overseas. Let us know whenever we can ,he of any use to you or any of your members, or indeed any New Zealanders whatsoever. Kind regards to all old friends." A letter was also received from headquarters asking for the name of the nominee. to the proposed Advisory Committee on Disabled Soldiers' Civil Re-establish-ment.—lt was resolved that Mr J,\W. Smeaton be the nominee from Otago Centre. A report from Sister Kirkpatrick revealed that good work had been' done during the month of October. Eighteen addresses on health principles bad been delivered in various schools. Classes for home nursing and first aid were also active. A number of students keenly appreciated the privilege of attending the hospitals and: assisting with bedmaking, l etc. Junior Red CrdssiCircles were working satisfactorily. Addresses on and demonstrations of first aid had been given to kindergarten mothers, Eaikorai, .and and the Mothers’ League, Mornington. The matron of the Montecillo Home furnished a satisfactory Veport. Three patients had been admitted and four discharged; There were 22 men in the home. ■ Further gifts for the. patients had been received, and acknowledged with thanks. Details id connection with closing of i the : home during the Christmas season were left with the Home Committee. • Final arrangements were made regarding the garden fete to be held on December 6. Miss Graham reported that the Junior Red Cross girls had offered to assist at the fete.—Offer accepted with pleasure.
