DAFFODIL DAY.

PUBLIC APPEAL BY PLUNKET SOCIETY. EXCELLENT RESPONSE BY PUBLIC. ~The annual street appeal organised by the Plunket; Society yesterday was attended by singular success, in the matter of both weather, conditions and public support, and resulted* in the addition of over £430 to. the society’s fund. The unusually warm weather undoubtedly tempted larger numbers of people than is customary to make their way about the city on foot, and the energetic workers at the various stalls made the most of their opportunity, with the result that a brisk trade ensued. Such was the response to the appeal for assistance made by the Plunket Society to the _ various organisations and private citizens throughout the city that the various booths were stocked to overflowing with saleable goods of all descriptions, but so whole-hearted was the response made by the general public that long before nightfall all the . stalls were_ stripped of their supplies - In addition to the donations received from various private sources throughout the district the society is deeply indebted to the following schools for very liberal donations of eggs, produce, and flowers:—Arthur Street School, Union street, Kaikorai, Mornington, Macandrew road, Forbury, Caversham, St, Leonards, Ravensbourne, and Port Chalmers. Further support was also received from Oamaru, Port Chalmers, Sawyers’ Bay, Portobello, Broad Bay, Macandraw Bay, Leith Valley, Lawrence, Mosgiel, and Dunedin suburbs, from whom large suppljes of flowers and produce were received, whilst a particularly beautiful collection of blooms was received from Sir R. Heaton Rhodes’ estate at Tai Tapu. The arrangements for the day were under the control of Mrs J. A. Johnstone (president of the Plunket Society), Mrs Joseph M'George, Mrs Saul Solomon, Mrs Arthur Barnett, Mrs J. Williams, and Miss Nina Reid, and all are to be congratulated on the success of their efforts. The stall-holders, and the amounts collected at the various booths, were as follow: Dowling Street.—Mrs J. C. M'George, Mrs Thomas Broan, and Mrs S. Cox. £25 12s lOd. Stock Exchange.—Mrs J. M. Gallaway and Mrs Saul Solomon, £37 14s lOd. Mollison’s Corner.—Mrs Phillips and the Free Kindergarten Association, £6 16s Cd.

Jacobs’s Corner.—Mrs Joseph M'George apd Miss N. Reid, £B9 12s Id. Sprosen’s Corner.—Sira J. Cunningham and Mrs L. F. Cleghorn (Port Chalmers). £SO 4s 3d.

Bank of New Zealand. —Mrs R. S. Black and Mrs Arthur Barnett, £66 8s Id. Strand Corner.—Mrs J. J. Cairney, Mrs J. Williams, and Mrs A. Fraser, £55 Is 4d. The total amount collected at the stalls was £331 9s whilst a further £lO4 7s 6d was collected by Mrs Joseph M'George and M;ss Nina Reid in respect of donations, bringing the grand total for the day up to £435 17s sd.
