ECLIPSE OF THE SUN

NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITION. ARRIVAL AT NIUAFOOU, (By Radio.) NIUOFOOU, October 1. (Received Oct. 2, at 8 p.m.) The members of the New Zealand eclipse expedition landed from H.M.S. Laburnum at Niuafoou Island at 8 a.n* on Monday. They were welcomed by Dr S, A. Mitchell on behalf of the American party, which has been on the island for several weeks preparing for the observations. The Americans are under the control of Commander Keppler, Who extended every facility to New Zealand’s representatives. The New Zealanders started work .almost immediately after landing. On Tuesday Dr Adams chose a site for the erection of the instruments, and it is -hoped thaFa start will he made on Wednesday with the concrete work for the foundations. All the New Zealanders are well. ■
