BAPTIST CONFERENCE.
The forty-eighth conference of the New Zealand Baptist Union will be held from October 0 to 16 in the Hanover Street Baptist Church. About 120 delegatee will, assemble from all parts -of the Dominion, It is four years since the con. ference was last held in Dunedin. It will open with a welcome tea to the dele* gates, when the usual speeches of welcome will be made by representatives of the • local Christian Churches, ' The programme is full of important and interesting business, touching the two great fields in which the Baptist Union is operating—namely, the home field in the Dominion,. and the foreign field in India. Thus, Friday. October 10, will be devoted to a conference upon ."The Greater Efficiency of the Denomination," when methods will be thoroughly over-' hauled, whilst on Tuesday, October 14, the day will be given to foreign missions. Two missionaries, on furlough. Misses Rise arid Arnold, will be present. The evening meetings have been carefully planned. On Monday, October 9, the incoming president (the Rev. W. E Lambert) will deliver the presidential address. On Saturday, October 11, a musical festival will he held in Burris Hall, preparations for which have been in the capable hands of Mr H. P Desmoulins. On October 13, two addresses of interest will be given, one by the Rev. J. Laird, on The Call for Character, or the Kingdom Within,” and the other by the Rev W. S. Rollings on “ The Call for Conquest or the Kingdom Without.” On October 14 a missionary pageant will be conducted by two missionaries, Misses liise and Arnold, and will present in -. way I*, he w 2|* in India, and some of its problems, Wednesday, October 15, will be college night, when the Rev. J. Crozier will speak on “ The Adventure and Appeal of the Baptist Ministry,” tj i n n Rev * m' North upon “The Ideal College Training for the Men of Xo-day. Ihe singing for these evening gatherings will be led by a large united choir, under Mr H, P. Desmoulins. These meetings will be open to the public. An outstanding feature will be an excursion to Larnach Castle on Saturday afternoon. October Hi which will also be Open to the public.
