(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAPANUI, October 1. LAWN TENNIS CLUB. The annual meeting of the Tapanui Lawn Tennis Club was held in the pavilion on Tuesday evening. Mr T. L. Floyd occupied the chair in the absence of the president (Dr W. Robertson). The secretary submitted the report and balance sheet, which the club to be in a sound > financial position. In moving their adoption, which was unanimously confirmed, the chairman commented on the success of the past season. The A team had been successful in winning the district competition, after having played off with Waikoikoi. Under the newly formed West Otago Sub-association, several representative matches had been played, in winch the club had'been well represented, the following were elected office-bearers for the ensuing year:—President, Dr W. Kobertson; vice-presidents—Messrs J. B. Quaile, P. H. Cockerill, and J. Keir; secretary , Mr T. L. Floyd; club captain, Mr J. B. Quaile; committee—Misses Lischnor, Macrae, M'Coll, Buchanan, and (jrant, Messrs Crawford, Herbert, and Lunn. It was decided to open the season on Saturday, October 4. Four new mem*

bers were elected. It was decided to enter one’team only for the banner competition, A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting. ■ • STOCK SALE. r iS a Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held a sale in the Tapanui Yards. There was only a small yarding, and, considering the state of the market, the Prices realised were very satisfactory. The following sales were made:—92 twotooth wethers. 23s 4d; 100 ewe hoggets, 19s; 49 ewe hoggets, 17s 9dj 2 pigs weaners), 2is, 222 s 6d. GIRL GUIDES. The annual meeting of the Girl Guides’ Association was held in. tho. Oddfellows' Eali on Tuesday. ■ The district. commissioner (Mrs W. R. Quin) presided over a good attendance. The secretary submitted the report and balance sheet, and also read interesting reports from the Ranger, Luide, and Brownie Companies. In moving the adoption of the-report and balance sheet, Mrs Quin commented on the success of the past year. Financially, she said, the companies had been all in a good position, and, as the reports disclosed, they were making satisfactory progress. She urged all to take a keen interest in the guide movement, and so help to make the girls good citizens. She paid a tribute to the work of the captain of the Ranger Company (Mise Parry) and of the captain of « Huide Companies (Miss Edgar), two Officers who had been with the companies since the commencement of the, movement in the district, and who had resigned- during the year. She also congratulated the omcerß on the good work they were doing for the girls. In conclusion, she said she had much pleasure in formally moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, which-was seconded by Mrs J. H. ; White and carried unanimously. The election of officers for the year resulted as follows: President, Mrs W. K. Gill; vice-presi-dents—Mesdames C. Craigie and H. M. stevens; secretary and treasurer, Mrs J. U Cameron; committee—Mesdames WilSjiSj, .White, Duff. Howat, Moore* Rodger. Williams, and Miss Wylie. The secretary was instructed to write to the retiring president (Airs R. Duff) expressing sympathy with her in her illness, and wishrng her a speedy recovery. Other matters ot interest were discussed, and the meeting closed with a vote of,thanks to the chair, M.U.1.0.0.F. The monthly meeting of the Loyal Tapanui Lodge was held in the lodge room on Thursday evening, when there was a good attendance of members. Owing to the lodge being represented at the district meetmg by the N.G.,8r0. E. Howat, and the G.M., Bro. R. Kirk, the respective offices were occupied by P.G. Bros. A. J. irotts and E. MjAuley. One new member was ■ initiated, P. 6. Bro. J. Mercer and Lto. A. M Auley acting as conductors. The business order paper was before the meeting, and a considerable amount of'correspondence was dealt with. The committee appointed to arrange for the annual ball to.be held on October ,3, and the church parade to the Anglican Church on Sunday evening, October 5, reported that all complete. It was decided that an official visit should lie paid to the Loyal Mount Wendon Lodge, Waikaia, at an early tiate.
