Mr Jack Matthews, who, with the late Mr Eric Hook, crashed in the Burmese jungle on their attempt to fly from England to Australia, met Mrs Hook in London and told her the full story of her husband’s end. When Mrs Hook arrived the now crippled survivor of the adventure strugglcd to his feet and seized her hands, tears streaming down liis cheeks* The widow embraced him and said, “Jack, old boy, you were splendid. You risked your own safety for him. Tell me everything.” Mrs Hook stated afterwards: “ I know everything now. I’m starting life all over again. _ There much that Matthews told me which the public does not know My husband’s affairs turned out worse than I ever guessed. A stranger sent me £IOO, which I spent on clothes for the children. The fund which is being raised will be devoted to the children who have had a harder time than anybody realises.” ' y
