THE KAITANGATA FUND.

QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT. HELP FOR NECESSITOUS CASES. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, October 1. Information concerning the intention of the Government in regard to legislation it is proposed to bring down to enable a distribution to beneficiaries under the Kaitangata mine disaster fund was sought by Mr A. E. An sell (Chalmers) in the House of Representatives to-day. A question on the point had been previously addressed to the Minister of Mines (Mr A. J. Murdoch) by Mr J. A. Nash (Palmerston), who asked if the Government intended to bring down legislation, as the matter had been under consideration for some years, and some of the relatives of the deceased miners were in need of help. Mr Ansell asked the Minister in what direction the proposed legislation would assist the dependents of those who lost their lives. He also requested to be furnished with information regarding the amount standing to the credit of the fund, and whether the fund had been put to any other use than the purpose for which it was subscribed. Information was also sought by Mr Ansell whether the money would be divided among living dependents or applied for the relief of necessitous cases only. Interviewed this evening, Mr Ansell said he had seen the Minister after the House rose in the afternoon, and he had indicated that the legislation the Government intended to introduce would in the meantime deal only with necessitous cases.
