MOSGIEL BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. ■ " The monthly meeting of the Mosgiel Borough Council was held last night, the* Mayor (Mr W, E. M'Lean) presiding. CraJphnWright.G A. M'Leod, J.Whitl, J. Mitchell, and John Garrett were also present. CORRESPONDENCE. The Municipal Association of New Zealand notified that the Minister of Internal Affairs had agreed to the inclusion of validating clauses in the Finance Bill in regard to grants made by local authorities to the Cancer Campaign and to the Obstetrical Societies’ Funds.—Noted. J. F. Frew forwarded a rough sketch plan of a proposed subdivision of sections in Green street, and inquiring: as to the council’s requirements before giving its consent to the subdivision.—The'matter was left in the hands of the Mayor to interview the writer. The secretary, Taieri Cricket Club, wrote accepting the council’s terms for the use of the Recreation Ground as a playing area,—Received. The Morrinsville Borough Council forwarded copy of letters that had been sent to the Minister in charge of the Valuation Department in respect to revaluation under section 50 of the Valuation of Land Act, 1925, and asking whether the council could see its way to support the same; if so, to make representations to the Minister accordingly.— It was resolved to give support. The town clerk, Rotorua, forwarded a list of arrangements made by the council for. the accommodation of visiting delegates to the next Municipal Conference to be held in Rotorua. —Received, REPORTS, The Finance Committee reported that the receipts for the month had been £3OB 16s 7d, and recommened for payment accounts totalling £286 18s 3d.—Adopted. • The Works Committee reported that the following works had been carried out during the mohth:— Septic tanks; The receiving tanks had been desludged, settling tanks flushed out, and all channels swept and cleaned. Water supply: Air -and scour valves on the pipe line ha-’ been attended to and all the sewers icd Both intakes at Whare Flat ha., oceii cleaned put, two days having been spent in scouring out the gravel from the top intake, and there was now ample storage area. The drainage at the foot of the reservoir to intercept the seepage from flowing on to Mr Gow’s land had been completed. The committee recommended that the surplus toppings at the quarry be purchased for top-dressing the footpaths at 2s per cubic yard. The circular letter from the New Zealand Institute of Architects in reference to plans and specifications for new buildings had been received. Two building permits had been granted.—The report was adopted. The reports of the Reserves and General Committees were adopted. GENERAL. Itwas decided to ask the Railways Denartment to (dear come earth from the
