JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS.' 'V A meeting of early settlers who arrived at Port Chalmers by the ship Auckland ; ’ was held in the Early Settlers’ Hall on Monday evening. Mr Malcolm M'Leiman * occupied the chair. There was also a fair crepresentation of descendants. The object : of the meeting was to make arrange- > meats for the celebrating of the jubilee ' of the vessel’s arrival. Mr M’Lennan said : that widespread interest was being es- • 1 hibited in the proposal by people in all ' parts of Otago, and it was anticipated that many others from other parts of New Zealand would -be present at tbe celebrations, Included in the programme 1 of functions will be a, reunion in the < Early Settlers’ Hall. This will be fol- ‘ r lowed by a social gathering in the evening. On Sunday evening, November 16, i a special service will be conducted in First Church by the Rev. W. A. Stevely. The 1 functions on the Saturday have been made r possible by arrangement with the proprietor of the Wembley Club (Mr P„ J. v Hackett), who had kindly agreed to allow ‘I the hall to be used. A small committee j has been set up to arrange a programme > 1 for the opening function, and a further meeting will be held on October 13 at 7.30 p.m. It was decided that the secretary (Mr T. Begg) should circularise all passengers and others interested asking them - to advise whether they will be present on November 15 and 16, and if so t 0 forward a subscription of 5s to the treasurer (Mr A. Mitchell). .
