BOXING.

OTAGO UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT. \ The Otago University Boxing Club held a combined novice and inter/nculty tournament at Marama Hall last night. The tournament was held under the control of the Otago Boxing Association. Mr Don Paterson was-the referee arid Messrs Peter Torrio and Peter Young the judges. The contests were of three Two-minute rounds; • . NOVICE FEATHER-WEIGHTS. W. 0. Thomson 9.0 beat G. Oowie 9,0. The pair went at it in whirlwind style, using both hands, and hitting from all directions. They kept up the pace right through the three rounds; but Cowie was tiring a bit at the finish. Both boxers on occasions used an effective left. LIGHT-WEIGHTS. F. Kibblewhite 0.7 beat J. Harris* 9.11. They started off in strenuous style, .Harris, whose .distance and timing were a little faulty, doing good work with right swings. Some solid exchanges took place in the second, round, in which Kibble- - white's condition began to fail him. In the third round Kibblewhite fought back gamely, but there could not have been ; much between the two. A. Graham 9.13 and G. Dudley 10.0, who , were drawn for a bye, boxed a no- • decision contest. W. T. Dunne 10.0 beat R. A. Simons 9.10. ~ Dunne, used a ’ good left, to th"e bead anfl came across with his right now and again. Dunrie scored well with his left in the second round and in the third made his opponent miss a lot by good foot- . work. Kibblewhite beat Dudley. Kibblewhite was the quicker of the', pair, and had more variety in his attack.,' Dudley waited too mubh for his opponent to-come to him, but he showed up in Hashes of solid work. This was the final . of the interfacuity contest. Dunne beat Graham. ,Dunne,, easily outboxed and outfought ■ his opponent, who hardly got in one effective blow. The 'referee stopped the fightin the second round. This was the final ■ of the novices, , NOVICE WELTER-WEIGHTS. W. T. Dunne 10.0 beat A. Townsend 10.7, ■' Townsend bad too much footwork and .. was outboxed and outfought by Dunne. FEATHER-WEIGHTS. ■ . R. G. Wilson 9.0 beat E. Watts 9.3. ‘Wilson, who connected now and again ' 1 with a straight left, had more knowledge of boxing than his opponent. Johnson - 11.13, Johnson did not know much about the* game, and gave up at the end of the J second round. ... MIDDLE-WEIGHTS. - T. C. Sutherland 11.4 and J, Lumsden 11.4 fought a no-decision contest. The medicals won the Benham Cup with four wins.
