Watt, of the bacteriological department of the Otago University, wrote regarding his inspection of the society’s hatchery. By direct examination of the white spot in ova he Lad found a bacillus present in every case. In the advanced cases the infection was a very jnixed one. A trained bacteriologist might take several years to arrive at the cause of the infection. Others were at present working on the problem, and might even now have reached its solution. -He considered that the society would be well advised to communicate with other fisheries asking for information.—The letter was received. Mr A. Blanc, of the Otago University, wrote stating that he had investigated the stomach contents of the shags sent to him. In all cases except three he had found that the contents consisted almost entirely pf fish remains in varying stages of digestion. In most cases the stomachs were fully distended. The fish were mainly from two to six inches long. Of the exceptions mentioned, two were without food of any kind and the third contained an cel.—Received.
