SCANDAL IN CHICAGO
.POLITICIANS INDICTED. HUGE FRAUDS ALLEGED. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph-Copyright.) NEW YORK, May 29. (Received May 30, at 9 p.m.) A message from Chicago states that the city’s newest, if not its greatest, scandal came to light to-day with the indictment of ten prominent political figures. Frauds involving 1,000,000 dollars are charged against them, and items thereunder are a 1000-dollaf street lamp for a certain boulevard, excessive expenditure on a 1,000,000-dollar bridlepath for which 400,000 dollars, were spent on cinders (the. path actually remains unused), unlawful, and unauthorised ex-, penditures of hundreds of thousands of dollars in sums of 1300 dollars to escape the law .which provides for competitive bidding where larger than 500-dollar outlays are involved, and extensive pay. roll padding. -
