MUNICIPAL TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT.
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —To those applying at the Town Hall for renewal of motor licenses is 1 handed a pamphlet designated “ The Dun- | edin City Council’s Official Traffic Signals.” It is somewhat significant that ' the publication is printed in Christ- ' church because it has been noticeable foxyears that advances in municipal management have started in the north and been finally recognised and adopted in Dunedin many years after they were due. Tlxe pamphlet referred to gives unsolicited prominence to one striking instance of the slowness of Dunedin to recognise advances in traffic management. The traffic officer here shown has white armlets or gauntlets, but such a necessary addition to the dress of the men on point duty has never- yet been seen on the streets of Dunedin. During the recent darkness his movements have been obscure and the absence of accidents has been due largely to the commonsense of motorists. I believe that the Motor Association requested the Police Department to consider this matter, but whether this xs correct or not the fact remains that Dunedin is many years behind the times, —I i am, etc., I Motorist. !
