CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE.

BRITISH EMPIRE FEDERATION. NEXT CONGRESS IN NEW ZEALAND. (Special to Daily Times.) WELLINGTON, May 30. “I am delighted to learn that the Federation of the Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire has decided to hold its next congress in New Zealand,” said Mr D. J. M'Gowan, chairman of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, to-day. “At the last conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand, held in Auckland in,October, I moved and it was adopted, that the Empire Federation be invited to bold its next congress in New Zealand, and in due course that invitation was forwarded. This congress is held once in every three years, and of course is attended by delegates, many of whom are leaders in the world of commerce. “ It is a big thing for New Zealand,” continued Mr M'Gowan, “as it means that we shall he visited by sound commercial men of the highest standing in Great Britain, Canada, South Africa, Australia and.other parts of the Empire, many of whom will probably he visiting this part of the world for the first time. Where the congress will be held will in all probability be settled at the next conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, which is to be held at the Hermitage (Mount Cook) in October next. We hope that it will be Wellington, this being the capital city and tlxe most central point of assemblage for all concerned, but that is purely a matter for the Associated Chambers to decide.

When forwarding the invitation wc had an asurance from the Government that if the invitation were accepted all reasonable facilities would be afforded overseas delegates to see something of Kew Zealand. The ;Chief representative of the Associated Chambers at the federated Congress now sitting in London is Mr W, Mackin, of Christchurch. Others that I know who are there are Mr P. G. Gibbs, of Nelson, and Mr Sidney (of J. Nathan and Co) who usually represents the Wellington Chamber of Commerce at such functions.” .*
