Y.M.C.A.

The Y.M.C.A. is controlled by Christian laymen, but it is not a church or sect. It has no creed, no sacraments, no ritual; it considers itself secondary and supplementary to the church in the extension of Christianity. It encourages men to be loyal to the church of their choice. It is a world-wide brotherhood, .which aims at service to the community, and a whole world of young men in general; an institution doing a specialised work for boys, with men giving full-time service for life; a competitor with the demoralising influence of a city; it produces results in the lives of young men and develops them'for the best citizenship; it is preventive rather than cura tive in its aims'; it is democratic in government and management; it is not competitive but co-operative with other organisations working for men and boys; it amis at positive work for the spare time of youths, especially between the ages of 10 and 20; it has no political or sectarian aims; it is a welcome centre for strangers; it is a promoter of community welfare: it has something in which every man or boy can bo interested.
