THEFT OF CATTLE.
ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. (Special to Daily Times.) I fWHANGAREI, May 22. Arthur Brown, aged 29, to-day pleaded guilty and wae committed to the Supreme Court for aentence s on a charge of having stolen four heifers and two steers, of a total value of £47, the property of Ernest Maddren, of Maunu. , The accused,, in a statement, said that he and his brother looked after the stock on the. farm of Muddten, a nearby farmer, while the latter'was, in hospital. One morning he found six animals obmed by Maddren on the roadside, drove them to Whakapara, had them dipped, and trucked to Westfield. He did not know why he acted in this manner, " and regretted it immediately. When taxed with the offence he confessed to the police.
