SALE IN ENGLAND REPORTED. EXPIRY OF PASSENGER LICENSE. (Special to Daily Times.) WELLINGTON, May 22. The New Zealand Shipping; Company’s liner Rimutaka is reported to have been - - sold in England. The Rimutaka is well known to: New Zealanders,.'as she was • for oyer 30 years on the New ZealandEngland run. She carried colonial troops during‘the Great War. .; • ' When the Rimutaka left New Ply- ' mouth on January 18 of this year on. her final trip to England it was expected that she would be sold as a cargo vessel, ■ her passenger carrying license having ex- ; paired. The Rimutaka had .accommodation for 70 first class and 80 third class passengers, but carried only 12 passengers on her final trip to England. She has' been, in the England-New Zealand service ever since her construction and has made 61 voyages to New Zealand. In the early days she voyaged to and from New > Zealand round, Cape Horn,' calling at a few Australian'pqrts, although later she sailed via'Panama. ’ ‘ ‘ •• The Rimutaka was built by . Messrs W. Denny and Bros., Dumbarton, and is a . twin-screw, vessel whitb two sets of triple reciprocating engines developing 4000 h.p. Her gross tonnage is 8997; length 457.7 feet; beam 58.2,feet; draught,,3o.B feet ; When first launched her- tonnage; was 7700, but alterations accounted■; for an xperease of 1200 tons,; . A remarkable tiling' about; the v bt4' Uner was her ability to maintain the same speed as that for which; she was built—namely, 12 knots. The first commander of .the ship was Captain Greensttect. He was followed by Captain F. A. Hemming, now retired, who was in command for 18 years. Captain Barnett was next in charge, , and he was succeeded by Captain-O' B. Lamb, who had been with thb Rimutaka for only two voyages to New Zealand.
