A DANGEROUS FIND.
CARTRIDGES ON RUBBISH TIP. BOYS’ FORTUNATE ESCAPE. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 22. Two lads of about 10 years of age, enjoying tlieir school holidays, sought adventure in the Hutchison road rubbish tip on Wednesday and found it. Poking over the rubbish one of them saw something bright, and on picking it up he discovered it to be a perfectly good .303 cartridge. Elated with his find' the boy showed the cartridge to his friend, and both commenced to search diligently for more, with the result that one boy found 12 and his friend eight sound cartridges. Returning home in triumph with their spoil they planned to exploit the find. One of the boys was about to hit the cap on one of the cartridges with a hammer when the father arrived on the scene. He was told of the find and shown the cartridges, which he promptly commandeered. The discovery was reported to the city engineer (Mr Q. A. Hart) who at once instructed Mr E. Jeffries (explosives officer) to institute a search at the tip in case there were more cartridges among the rubbish there.
