Britain’s defence of amateur sport triumphed at a of the Interna* tional Amateur Athletic Federation when a Finnish and Swedish motion seeking to establish the principle for broken time payment was rejected by 18 votes to 4. Mr Barnard, on 'behalf of Britain, said he would withdraw from the federation if the proposals it ere carried. The sport,, he said, must be a inducted for the sport’s sake by not allowing payment to any Olympic member jor international competitor for loss of t£me and wages. THE EMPIRE GAMES.
