(Special to Daily Times.) INVERCARGILL, May 21. There passed away at Dunedin on .May 14, at the age of 78 years, Air Joseph Smith, who was well known in the sawmilling industry in Southland. He landed in New Zealand with his- parents at the ag. of 12 years from Cumberland, England. He entered sawmilling three years later, and was continuously employed in the timber industry in different parts of Otago and Southland for 58 years,,when he retired at the age of 73, and lived with his family in Dunedin. Air Smith is survived by a family of six sons and three daughters, who live in various parts of the North and South Islands." THE REV. W. T. CURRIE. ’ The Rev. W. T. Currie died on Tuesday at hia residence, Epsom avenue, Auckland. He was born 67 years ago in County Antrim, Ireland, and after devoting some years to business, he studied for the ministry of the Irish Presbyterian Church. Having a brother, Dr F. W. Currie, of Dunedin, already in New Zealand, he decided to come to the Dominion, and 25 years ago he was appointed to Kaitangata. After seven or eight years’ service there he accepted a call to Mangere and Otahuhu, where he remained until his retirement a year ago. The deceased is survived by his widow and four children, of whom the eldest is Dr J, S. Currie, of Otahuhu.
