SIR HUBERT WILKINS
PLANS FOR ARCTIC TRIP. . SEEKING LOAN OE SUBMARINE. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, May H. (Received May 0, at 0 p.m.) Sir Hubert Wilkins and Mr Simon Lake, the inventor, who is co-operating in the explorer’s Arctic trip, called upon the Acting Secretary of the Navy (Mr Jahneke) to inquire as to the possibility of arranging the loan of an obsolete navy submarine, hut they received little encouragement. It was explained that under the London Treaty the United States retains such craft and that they were required for experimental purposes. Sir Hubert and Mr Lake later called on the State Department, but it is understood that they were told substantially the same thing.
