One of the innovations as a result of the activities of the new system of education in the' Port Chalmers School is a .school magazine, the first copy of which, entitled Koputai te Karere or the Port Chalmers Messenger, is worthy of commendation for the initial efforts of the pupils. A distinctive and appropriate cover design by Mr Jack gives a good impression; The standard of the work in the magazine reflects great credit on the pinils who have contributed, the editor (Master Peter Ward) and the headmaster (Mr D. Forsyth), whose suggestion caused the inception of the magazine. (The monthly meeting of the Anderson’s Bay School Committee was held on Wednight. IVfr J. C, H, Somerville presiding over a full attendance of members. Mr Parr, the headmaster, was also present. Mr Pearce reported that the patching of the playground had been completed preparatory to top-dressing, which would be done during the vacation. The extensive- work of laying out the new playground in concrete was about to be commenced. and ways and means of financing the work were discusseej. ■lt was decided to hold a concert by the pupils on Thursday, July 10, and at a later date to hold a flower show. The headmaster reported on the work of the school for the past month, stating that the health of the children was very good, but the attendance could be, improved. A simple service had been held at the school on Anzac Day, Lieutenant-colonel J. G. Jeffrey giving the address to the children. As regarded the sport of the school, an A Grade Association football team, composed of boys who would not be eligible for the Rugby teams, had entered the competition, and had won its first match. Two Rugby teams —Grades B and C—had been entered for the competitions, but no matches had yet been played. Owing to the manager of the Anglican Boys’ Home not allowing his boys off on Saturday morning, it would be necessary to forfeit all matches fixed for that day
